Canning

Our second canning event went over GANGBUSTERS; we cut over one hundred salmon last Friday, upping our total to 250 jars of salmon for Elders Week! The students cut so much that someone needed a Band-Aid for a blister, and happily that was the only Band-Aid necessary. Not one bloody gash or loose limb, and that means a lot to a klutz like me.

Unfortunately, everyone got SO tired after the 80th fish, that we stopped cutting the skins and fins off. I know expert canners might scoff at jars of skins and fins, but we were exhausted! Anyway, it doesn't look AS BAD AS THIS.

Thus, we really have to honor Mr. Roy Black who cleaned and filleted the ONE HUNDRED fish last Friday morning all by himself. Also, thank you to the High Tide Seafood company for their donations.

I'm really thankful to my Superpara Angel, Miss Stephanie, and Miss Shelly for facilitating these fishy extravaganzas. Ms Earley also got her Home Ec groove on to help us when we were tired. And I'm really proud of the students for their efforts to create this gift for their Elders. Good job, y'all.
